Technologies used when developing with VSTO

The Office Plattform is built using COM technology. If you want to access the Office API's from a managed application, the COM interfaces must be mapped into .Net classes. This classes are called Primary Interop Assemblies (PIA). Using this API is very tricky, to simplify the development process and make it more usable, you can use the VSTO extensions.
